The season’s traditional opening spectacle proved to be an entertaining match between England’s top two teams.
With the scores level at full time the match was decided dramatically in the penalty shoot-out when Edwin van der Sar saved thefirst three Chelsea penalty attempts. Manchester United’s penalty taking was unerring and resulted in United again lifting the Shield.
