The setback of conceding John Arne Riise’s fastest goal in a league cup final, could not stop Chelsea dominating much of the play. A determined Liverpool defence held out until Steven Gerrard, under strong pressure put through his own goal on 79 minutes. Extra time saw Chelsea pressing hard and goals from Didier Drogba on 107 minutes and Mateja Kezman on 112 minutes ensured a deserved victory for Chelsea, despite a consolation goal from Antonio Nunes on 113 minutes.
