Sol Campbell score's England's first goal in their opening match in the tournament by heading home David Beckham's first-half corner kick. Sweden's Niclas Alexandersson later equalised with a shot that passed an unsighted David Seaman. The game played at Saitama, Japan ended as a 1-1 draw.
