Nico Kovac unexpectedly opened the scoring for Croatia after six minutes of this 2004 European Championship match. England came back strongly and took the lead with goals from Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney in the last five minutes before the break.
The lead increased on sixty-eight minutes with a fine breakaway goal by Wayne Rooney before Igor Tudor reduced the arrears on
seventy-four minutes. Frank Lampard wrapped up the scoring on seventy-nine minutes to round-off a 4-2 win andsecure the runner-up position in Group B enabling England to progress into
the quarter final round.
